Right! The next step is going to be a "play this part for me" button in the game.

That makes sense. It'd be after it had been bestselling for many years at that point, and had probably 'worn out its welcome' with the hardcore crowd.

I'm not sure where I saw it, but I've definitely seen (unfounded) criticism from some gaming magazines about it being pompous, "beardy" and railroading. However my argument is that they missed the point.

This wasn't stuff written at the time of release I must point out, but in the late 90's early 2000's. It may well have been the computer mags I was buying at the time and not actually a global backlash.

While that last sentence is completely correct, and I don't doubt it for a second, I never ran across any Myst-backlash (well, until they got to Uru, but that came from the Myst fans). Funny that I missed it.

There is also a fair bit of bad feeling towards Myst from various quarters it must be said, although I always felt it a little unfair.

Like the Sims, Myst is a game that appealed to people other than hardcore gamers. And that group of guys and girls can sometimes be quite snobby about things that aren't aimed at them.

That's it... The Sims.

I'm not positive that the Millers did the entire thing by themselves - they may have had a little help on the technical side - but it is possible the first one was just them. They were even the actors in the video segments.

I think it was The Sims that replaced it.

The amazing thing to me is the fact that it looks like two people made it.
